Our History

1996

The national dance ensemble "Romiosini" was founded in Limassol, Cyprus in 1996 by Otari Nektarios Toursidis, a choreographer from Tsalka, Georgia. In the 70's and 80's, Otari also established the ensembles "Kazbek" and "Eleftheria" in Stavropol, Russia, which continue to operate under the leadership of his students.

1997

The ensemble has given its first concerts at 1997 with Greek dances from Pontos and Georgian folk dances. It was the first ever dance group in Cyprus performing this kind of dances.

2010

Since 2010, Otari’s son Agis Achilleas Toursidis has become the chief choreographer and art director of “Romiosini”. Agis previously served as the art director and chief choreographer of the ensemble "Eleftheria" in Stavropol, Russia from 2002 until 2010, before returning to Cyprus and taking on the role at “Romiosini”.

2010

In 2010, the Children Dance Academy was founded in Limassol, with branches in Paphos opening initially in 2011, followed by Nicosia's branch in 2013, and the latest branch in Larnaca in 2019. Over 150 children are currently learning various dances in the academy, with annual graduations based on exam performance.

2012

Since 2012, the ensemble has been captivating audiences in the largest theaters across Cyprus with a professional 90-minute artistic program. The performances feature the participation of talented graduates from the dance academy, adding to the ensemble's enchanting showcase.

2017

In 2017 the Ensemble and the Academy has been united as a CULTURAL ASSOCIATION OF FOLK DANCES “ROMIOSINI” with Agis Toursidis, as the President of this institution.
